How to Play Online Snooker

snooker, pool, billiards, cue, cueball, 8-ball, bet, table, pocket, carom

The snooker game, also known as English snooker, is one of the most popular snooker games in the world, especially in the UK.

The snooker table is a bit larger than the standard pool table plus its pockets are narrower. The snooker game is played with 22 balls including 1 cue ball, 15 red balls, and 6 colored balls. Other pool games are played using 16 balls: 1 cue ball and 15 numbered object balls.

The object of snooker is to gain the highest score by sinking the red and the colored balls into their pockets. The object of 8-ball pool, for example, is to sink both the group of 7 object balls and to pocket the 8-ball.

Snooker Equipment

Snooker equipment includes a table, which is a little bit larger than the standard pool table, 22 balls including 1 cue ball and a set of sticks.

The snooker game is usually played on a 6 X 12 or a 5 X 10 snooker table. The cushions on the snooker table are narrower than the ones appear on pool tables and as a result, the pocket openings are smoother. A straight line is drawn 29 inches from the face of the bottom cushion called the baulk line, which on its center the half circle, also known as the D is drawn. A standard set of snooker balls contains 15 unnumbered red balls, six colored numbered balls the white cue ball. Each object has a different point value: red=1; yellow=2; green=3; brown=4; blue=5; pink=6 and black=7.

Snooker Objective

The object of the snooker game is to score a number of points higher than the opponent's by potting the object balls according to snooker rules.

Snooker Opening Break

The opening break shot is taken with the cue ball in hand within the half circle. The breaking player is required to cause the cue ball to hit a red ball. According to snooker rules, the ball is not required to contact a rail or fall into a pocket on the opening break.

Snooker Rules

Potting a ball legally according to snooker rules detailed below allows the strikes to continue playing at the table until he or she fails in completing a legal pot of a ball. In order to compete a legal pot of a ball, the striker must cause the cue ball or an object ball to contact a cushion or drop in a pocket after causing the cue ball to hit a an on ball. Failure to cause the cue ball first to hit an on ball will be considered a foul.
